Trump’s “false or misleading claims” were diligently tracked and debunked for four years by The Washington Post Fact Checker team.
OTDI 2020, this Tweet of Trump’s regarding his supposed popularity became the 17,000th entry in their database. WaPo notes that Trump chose to cite a polling service that is notoriously biased towards Republican hopes and dreams. Other, more widely-accepted surveys disagreed with Trump's preferred source.
So did he stop? Nah. Trump eventually spread a similar version of this particular falsehood 64 times.
Were the 17,000 lies enough to convince voters? How about the 30,573 he told overall?* Apparently 74,223,975 Americans approved of those lies when they voted in 2020.
And in 2024?
*Note that reaching 30,573 means he told 13,000 lies in just the final 11 months of his stay in Washington.
