Good luck, America! Go vote! (Today's finale)

November 5: On This Day In 2024

{ICYMI last week, our TVC: Trump Values Checklist is clickable here, and our Closing Argument is here}

When we batted around concepts for how to wrap up this OTDI finale, the suggestion was made "How about reiterating why you spent this past year doing this?" Good idea.

It's simple: We saw this as the most important thing we could be doing in 2024. Maybe Trump is correct when he says that if the election doesn't go the right way "you're not going to have a country anymore."

So if we could play one small part in this great nationwide effort to defeat Trump, it seemed imperative to do so.

A distressingly large % of adults suffer from "Trump Amnesia." So each day's OTDI could be the bite-sized reminder that we shouldn’t want to return to that era. And we hoped readers would forward OTDIs as confirmations or rebuttals in the daily political discussions they have with their friends, colleagues, and families.

Also, a key portion of the 2024 electorate is young enough that they weren't politically aware when Trump first descended his gilded escalator. They hear from parents that "Trump is evil," but they don't understand why and want to "see the evidence" for themselves.

Have you seen the TikToks of young voters looking shocked as they hear that recording, for their first time, of Trump bragging that he likes to "grab them by the pussy?" We tried to teach something new like that every day.

Finally, we hoped OTDIs could shore up support even among committed “Blue” voters. The team can’t win unless all the players are motivated to show up and vote.

In the end, have we tipped a swing state? No. Did we persuade some voters? Did we help Team Blue feel fully comfortable in voting for Kamala? We hope so. Heck, we hope y'all even enjoyed some of them. 😀

The average NYT non-fiction best-seller contains 50,000 words. The year of OTDI spans well over 100,000 words. We thank you for sticking with us throughout! We very much appreciate it.

Btw, one other suggestion for today was to end with this poem sent in by a reader:

"VOTE

Like your life depends on it.

Like your freedom depends on it.

Like your democracy depends on it.

Because today they do."
