On This Day In 2018
Trump didn’t know the United Kingdom is a nuclear power
Donald Trump met with the British Prime Minister OTDI 2018. The countries have been best-of-allies for about two centuries, and collaborate on a full range of military, economic, and social measures.
Our president has no more important obligation than to protect our nation from nuclear warfare. To do so requires an in-depth knowledge of the abilities and weaknesses of our enemies and allies. So you’d think that a U.S. president would pay attention to his special top-secret security briefings, right?
But, apparently, Trump didn’t even pay attention to his high school briefings. So, during one meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May, he asked an inconceivably ignorant and downright stupid question: "Oh, are you a nuclear power?"
This incident was recounted by National Security Advisor John Bolton in his book “The Room Where it Happened.”
BTW, the United Kingdom first developed nuclear weapons 72 years ago.
